Spotify Reveals Its Most Streamed Music of the Last 20 Years

This month marks 20 years since Spotify was founded. Since it began operations in April 2006, the platform has now become the dominant force in music streaming and has completely changed the music industry.

Some of those notable changes have included audiobooks, Spotify Wrapped’s year-end recaps that almost every company across industries has now begun to copy, and, in recent years, a controversial introduction of artificial intelligence into the music streaming experience.

Now, for the first time in its 20-year history, Spotify announced its internal data on the top 20 most-streamed music, audiobooks, and podcasts since the platform’s creation. The results might not be totally shocking. For example, the most-streamed artist of the past 20 years is none other than Taylor Swift.

But there are some surprises and possible upsets, Beyoncé perhaps being chief of them. Not only did the hugely popular Beyoncé not make it into the top 20 most-streamed artists list, but none of her songs or albums were in the respective top 20s as well. K-pop, a subgenre with a huge and very dedicated fandom, also only got one nod with the boy band BTS.

According to the data, the most-streamed album of all time is Bad Bunny’s “Un Verano Sin Ti,” and the most-streamed song is “Blinding Lights” by The Weeknd

On the non-music streaming side of things, the most-streamed podcast of all time was The Joe Rogan Experience, and the top audiobook was Sarah J. Maas’ A Court of Thorns and Roses.
