Het Witte Huis heeft een lijst met tegenstrijdige uitspraken online gezet van democratische senators, met betrekking tot Venezuela en de arrestatie van Maduro. Hiermee wil het Witte Huis de vermeende hypocrisie van de linkse partijen aantonen.
Veel democraten riepen jarenlang dat Maduro een genadeloze tiran was die moest worden verwijderd. Maar nu Trump hierin is geslaagd, reageren ze woedend en beschuldigen ze hem van onverantwoordelijk handelen. "Hun afkeer van Trump lijkt zwaarder te wegen dan het belang van de nationale veiligheid," zo staat te lezen.
