Idris Elba May Join the He-Man Movie, Cuz Of Course He Will

Over the last few years, Idris Elba’s taken on more genre and B-level projects, and been fairly good in them. Voicing Knuckles in the Sonic movies is the immediate example, but there’s also his all-too-brief Fast & Furious stint, fighting that evil-ass lion in Beast, and saving a plane full of people in Apple’s Hijack show. His next genre venture is none other than Mattel’s Masters of the Universe movie.

Per The Wrap, Elba’s currently in talks to join the upcoming He-Man movie and take on the role of the mustachioed Duncan, aka Man-at-Arms. In the general canon, the character is Prince Adam/He-Man’s closest friend and advisor, one of the first to know the prince’s dual identities, and eventually takes on the role of the chief inventor for the good guys. He’s also the father of Teela, Adam’s friend/love interest who also eventually becomes another member of the Heroic Warriors that protect Castle Greyskull from evil forces like Skeletor and the Snake-Men.

Amazon and Mattel have been trying and struggling to geta Masters movie off the ground for the past few years, and while we know the film is being directed by Travis Knight and written by Chris Butler, there’s been no mention of its actual plot. Still, Elba marks the newest casting addition, which made some solid progress this summer when Bottoms’ Nicolas Galtizine landed the part of He-Man. Not long after, Riverdale alum Camila Mendes signed on as Teela, and Alison Brie was announced as the witch Evil-Lyn back in September. But who’s playing big bad Skeletor? That too remains a mystery, but hopefully not for too much longer.

If Amazon and Mattel have the power, Masters of the Universe will hit theaters on June 5, 2026.
