We might be at the beginning of spring, but Universal woke up and decided to remind folks of the summer blockbuster that’ll soon be upon us by releasing the official trailer for Steven Spielberg’s upcoming sci-fi film, Disclosure Day.
As with the previous teaser trailer, the official trailer for Disclosure Day is teeming with conspiratorial intrigue about what lies beyond the stars. It’s also filled with danger, depicting the lengths folks would go to keep it a secret from the public. In this case, the trailer sees its star-studded cast, comprised of Josh O’Connor, Emily Blunt, Colin Firth, Eve Hewson, and Colman Domingo, contending with us not being alone in the universe.
The Spielberg of it all is the wild visuals of nature, government conspiracies, and something cosmic converging in a thriller where revealing the truth of the film’s yet-to-be-divulged alien mystery leads to explosive car chases and trippy visuals. In other words, summer blockbusters are so back.
Disclosure Day sees Spielberg team up with longtime collaborator David Koepp, whose resume includes being the scribe for the screenplays for Jurassic Park, War of the Worlds, and Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. What’s so great about today’s trailer is that, despite unspooling more of the thrust of the film, it doesn’t give away too many details to the point where you can piece together every act of the movie before venturing into theaters.
There’s a deer walking with a little girl toward a glowing house, weird crop circles, high-tech eye-dilation gizmos, a terrifying train chase, and the most uncomfortable throat-gurgling sounds for all the unfortunate headphone wearers who hit play on the trailer.
Seeing as how Disclosure Day will be the first film from Spielberg after achieving EGOT status, the Letterboxd-obsessed friends among you have likely already calendared you in to check out the movie on opening day to see if the man responsible for summer blockbusters still has it.
All will be revealed when Disclosure Day hits theaters on June 12.
