Marvel Is Exploring Bringing Back Other Defenders From Netflix

When Daredevil: Born Again comes to Disney+ next month, it’ll be the biggest instance yet of two Marvel Universes crashing together. There’s the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which began in 2008, and Netflix’s Marvel Universe, which ran from 2015-2019. That dicotomy has been well documented and, over the past few years, Marvel has worked to bring them both together. Work that, apparently, will continue.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly about Daredevil: Born Again, Marvel’s head of television Brad Winderbaum acknowledged that there has been “exploration” into bringing other characters from the Netflix universe into the MCU. “I can’t say much, but I’ll tell you that it’s so exciting to be able to play in that sandbox,” Winderbaum said. “Obviously, we don’t have the unlimited storytelling resources like a comic book, [where] if you can draw it, you can do it. We’re dealing with actors and time and the massive scale of production in order to build a cinematic universe, especially on television. But I can just say that all those variables taken into account, it is certainly something that is creatively extremely exciting and that we are very much exploring.”

The variables he’s talking about are, primarily, Jessica Jones, played by Krysten Ritter; Luke Cage, played by Mike Colter; and Iron Fist, played by Finn Jones. Each famously had their own Netflix series, alongside Daredevil and The Punisher, which culminated Avengers-style into The Defenders. But while Daredevil and his supporting characters like Kingpin, Punisher, Foggy, Karen, and even Bullseye are returning for Born Again—which takes place in the MCU—there’s been no official word on the other big-ticket names. Fans have speculated, of course. And several of the actors have acknowledged a willingness to return but nothing has been set in stone.

Or, at least, that we know of. Plenty can happen over on Daredevil: Born Again, which starts its nine-episode first season March 4. Season two is already in preproduction as well.

Do you think the Netflix characters can comfortably fit into the MCU? Will Marvel have to break out the multiverse theory? Who would be the one you’d like to see the most and why is it Jessica Jones? Let us know below. And, head over to EW to read much, much more on Daredevil: Born Again.
