Cadillac causes multi-car crash in Daytona 24 restart

Major drama in Daytona for the erstwhile leading Cadillac

Cadillac’s hopes of scoring a victory in the Daytona 24 Hours took a big blow, with the #40 V-Series.R entered by Wayne Taylor Racing stranded on track after a mullti-car crash in the eighth hour.

After the fourth course yellow of the race was retreated, Louis Deletraz was battling with the #60 Meyer Shank Acura of Tom Blomqvist for sixth position in the GTP class.

But the Swiss driver seemingly spun on his own on the approach to Turn 2 at the restart, hitting the barriers at the exit of the corner before spinning back on track.

Nick Boulle was seen exiting the #2 United Autosports ORECA after the incident, while the #8 Tower Motorsport LMP2 entry of Sebastien Bourdais also sustained damage.

A number of GT cars too were caught up in the melee, including the #48 Paul Miller BMW, the #77 AO Racing Porsche and the #9 Pfaff Lamborghini.

The #40 Cadillac LMDh that caused the incident was put on the back of a flat-bed track later in the hour, seemingly signalling the car's exit from the race.

The car was leading the GTP class in the hands of Kamui Kobayashi shortly after the sixth hour of the race.

The other two Caddys in the field sit in first and third positions, with Jack Aitken at the front in the #31 Action Express Racing-entered machine.
