Have you been watching Time Bandits on Apple TV+ ? Fans of Taika Waititi and Jemaine Clement‘s brand of offbeat humor are especially encouraged to check out their series reboot of Terry Gilliam’s cult-beloved 1981 movie, which follows a nerdy young history lover as he travels through time with a gang of bumbling thieves.
In episode five, “Georgian,” they stop by Georgian England—a little bit earlier than the Bridgerton era, or Doctor Who‘s take on the Bridgerton era—and it features a delightfully haughty guest-starring turn from Sherlock‘s Mark Gatiss. He’s not in this exclusive clip, but it does show Lisa Kudrow’s character, de facto bandit leader Penelope, having a (somewhat uncharacteristically) sweet interaction with the young Kevin (Kal-El Tuck). Kevin’s having a tough time, so Penelope takes it upon herself to cheer him up.
Make sure to watch the whole clip for a peek at Clement, who in addition to being one of Time Bandits‘ co-creators along with Waititi and Iain Morris, also gives a campy performance as Pure Evil.
Yes, you interpreted that correctly: on this show, cats are used to spy on humanity for the denizens of the underworld. So that’s why they’re always staring at us!
