Let’s Talk About the Ending of Deadpool & Wolverine

Deadpool & Wolverine is now in theaters and it gives Marvel fans a lot to talk about. Huge revelations, cameos, end credit scenes, this movie has it all. So, let’s do just that. Beware of major, major spoilers

Mainly, we’re going to talk about what happens at the end of the film, what it could mean moving forward, and some other general thoughts. Last chance for spoilers.

So after combining forces to destroy the Time Ripper, thereby defeating Cassandra Nova and saving the timeline, Deadpool and Wolverine now exist in Wade’s universe, Earth 10005. They ask B-15, who has moved up in the world since Loki, if there’s any way she can extract the Resistance fighters who are in the Void (Jennifer Garner’s Elektra, Wesley Snipes’ Blade, Channing Tatum’s Gambit, and Daphne Keen’s X-23). She says she’ll try.

In the film’s final scene, we see our heroes at Wade and Blind Al’s apartment, and X-23 is there, confirming that B-15 did what she could. So we know that that character is now, officially, in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, albeit it not yet in the same timeline as the basic MCU. However, did Elektra, Blade, and Gambit get out as well? And if so, will they play a part moving ahead? Our guess is “Yes they did” and “Maybe they will,” but not until a big moment in a future Avengers movie.

The biggest takeaway, though, is that Wade was successful in his quest to save his universe. The timeline has officially stopped dying. How, exactly, did that happen though? Was this new Logan anointed the new Anchor Being? Was Wade? Which of the other X-Men beings in this now-saved universe are still alive? All questions we don’t have answers to.

And really, that was our general feeling about the ending of Deadpool & Wolverine. In terms of overall MCU impact, it just… doesn’t do much? Sure, it officially adds at least two hugely popular, awesome characters into the mix. Characters the TVA is well aware of and will obviously use in the future. But how and for what? There is no tease of how that’s going to impact things moving forward. Even the film’s end credit scene, which would usually be when we’d see that, is just an admittedly very funny cut of Chris Evans’ Johnny Storm firing off all the expletives Wade said he did earlier in the movie.

Of course, it does give the characters and story a suitably emotional and satisfying ending. Plus there is that dangling thread of Deadpool and Thor sharing some sort of moment in the future, but there’s no guarantee that’s going to still happen.

So, what do you think? In all my excitement did I miss anything? What was your read on how everything went down? Let us know below, full spoilers.
