There are a lot of Optimus Prime figures. The heroic leader of the Autobots is easily one of the most recognisable Transformers, if not the most recognisable, to have ever transformed and rolled out, so it makes sense that its biggest hero is also the biggest part of the toymaker’s figures, too, in the many designs and incarnations Optimus has had over the generations. But their latest crack at the whip for Prime might just be one of the company’s finest.
io9 has your exclusive first look at the next release in Hasbro’s Transformers Studio Series line inspired by the legendary 1986 Transformers: The Movie–a Commander-Class Optimus Prime, in all his retro glory. Inspired by the aesthetic and colors of the movie the classic “G1” era, the new figure clocks in around 7 inches tall when transformed into robot mode, and can be transformed into his semi-truck vehicle mode in 40 steps. Of course, as well as Optimus himself, the figure comes with a host of accessories–including a huge trailer that can attach to his vehicle mode and store Deluxe-Class figures, or the included Roller and Autolauncher repair drone, as well as fold out into its own command station. For Optimus himself, the set includes his trusty blaster, an attachable energy axe, and the Matrix of Leadership to embed in his chest, as well as blast effects that can be used with both robot and vehicle modes. Check out more pictures below!
The Studio Series Commander-Class Transformers: The Movie Optimus Prime is set to release this fall for $90, and and will go up for pre-order later today, July 16, at 1PM ET at Hasbro Pulse and other major retailers.
