Deadpool & Wolverine Fed Off Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman’s Real Friendship

Whenever you see Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool, it’s often hard to see where he ends and Wade Wilson begins. The actor and his most famous character are both wisecracking smartasses, and in a new interview, the actor explains that in certain scenes in Deadpool & Wolverine, that blend of reality and fiction not only carried over, but also applied to his friendship with co-star Hugh Jackman.

Reynolds and Jackman spoke with the New York Times and while most of the interview is goofy, Reynolds does get serious for a moment to talk about how their friendship drove the emotions of the movie. “In terms of the emotion, I’ve waited forever to do a movie with this guy, and I think he’s waited a long time to do something like this with me, so there are scenes where it’s pretty hard to distinguish between Wade Wilson talking to Logan and Ryan talking to Hugh,” Reynolds said. “I love that, I get goose bumps even just talking about it. That’s the kind of stuff that I will carry with me till my inevitable death….” The quote then gets silly as Reynolds goes off about about death by rubber bullets and kind of ruins my point, so we’ll cut it there.

But it’s exciting to think Deadpool & Wolverine will be more than just a multiverse-jumping R-rated action film. Some emotion throughout could really make it special.

And speaking of special, Marvel Studios just announced that Deadpool & Wolverine will have its very own San Diego Comic-Con panel on the opening night of the film, Thursday July 25. Reynolds and Jackman will be there along with director Shawn Levy and producer Kevin Feige. Will they show the whole movie? They better. You can register for a chance to attend at this link right here.

Deadpool & Wolverine opens wide July 26 and we’ll have more in the days before release.
