Godzilla Minus One, and More New Must-Watch Sci-Fi and Horror Movies on Netflix

Godzilla Minus One, Godzilla Minus One, Godzilla Minus One, and a few others too.

Every new month, all the big streamers—including Netflix—refresh their libraries and release exciting new titles too. You can usually find fresh additions hanging out on the Netflix top 10, but if you’re searching specifically for sci-fi and horror titles that have arrived within the past couple months—here are 10 to start with.

Godzilla Minus One

Godzilla Minus One

io9's top movie of 2023, not to mention the only Godzilla movie to date to take home an Oscar, made its surprising arrival on the streamer earlier this month. Needless to say, it holds up on the small screen and after near-obsessive repeat viewings. Stream on Netflix.

Under Paris

Under Paris

What is summer, without a movie starring a big ol’ shark that barges its way into an unfamiliar body of water and finds a delectable new feeding ground? Even better: this takes place in Paris, as the title suggests, and the scientist tasked with tracking it has personal history dealing with its toothy horrors. Stream on Netflix.

The Conjuring

The Conjuring

Kick back with Ed and Lorraine Warren (Patrick Wilson, Vera Farmiga) and revisit the 2013 James Wan movie that sparked its own spooky cinematic universe. If you’re craving more time with the Warrens—or with that pesky demonic nun—Netflix has the second and third Conjuring films available now too. Stream on Netflix. (Also: The Conjuring 2, and The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It.)

Dune (1984)

Dune (1984)

No Timothée Chalamet. No Zendaya. (Those guys weren’t even born yet when this version of Dune was made.) Just David Lynch making some choices (and having some made for him), and one of the most distinctly oddball sci-fi adaptations of the 1980s—or any decade, really. Stream on Netflix.

Ultraman: Rising

Ultraman: Rising

This animated Japanese-American co-production arrives Friday, June 14, and drops the legendary hero into a new adventure, as the official logline reads: “When baseball superstar Ken Sato returns home to Japan to pick up the mantle of Earth-defending superhero Ultraman, he quickly finds more than he bargained for as he’s forced to raise the offspring of his greatest foe.” Stream on Netflix.

Mortal Kombat (2021)

Mortal Kombat (2021)

The 2021 reboot of the film series based on the popular video game franchise was surprisingly entertaining, thanks in no small part to its intricately planned fight scenes. And, of course, all the gore! A sequel’s on the way next year, so here’s your chance to get prepared. Stream on Netflix.

Madame Web

Madame Web

This 2003-style superhero movie (that was released in 2024) is just gonna hang out on streaming until people start appreciating it as a budding cult classic. Might as well catch the wave (web?) early and stream on Netflix.

Hulk (2003)

Hulk (2003)

Speaking of superhero movies from 2003, this actual 2003 release pre-dates the official start of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and was directed by Ang Lee, two factors that make it a curiosity worth revisiting. It might be better than you remember; if watching it dredges up all the reasons you didn’t like it, you can always switch over to Madame Web instead. Stream on Netflix.

The Lego Movie

The Lego Movie

The Lego Movie turned 10 this year, and while it spawned fun sequels and spin-offs centered around Batman and Ninjago (as well as, somewhat less excitingly, Chris Pratt’s voice-over career), the original is still your best bet for brick-based animated entertainment. Stream on Netflix.

Archer

Archer

Netflix now has seasons 1-13 of the cult-beloved secret-agent series starring the voices of H. Jon Benjamin, Aisha Tyler, Judy Greer, Chris Parnell, the late Jessica Walter, and more (including some scorching guest stars). By the time the 14th and final season arrives—hopefully coming to Netflix eventually—you’ll be well-versed in phrasing. Stream on Netflix.
