Truth Social, the social media platform launched by Donald Trump in 2022, suffered a widespread outage on Thursday. And it’s unfortunate timing for the former president. He was right in the middle of furiously tweeting (or Truth-ing, to use the site’s tortured parlance) about President Joe Biden’s State of the Union speech.
Trump sent a flurry of posts before the outage, expressing anger about things like Biden pointing out the treasonous nature of the January 6th insurrection and the fact that Republican judges were responsible for putting IVF in danger as a legal procedure in Alabama.
Some highlights from Trump’s unhinged live-tweeting before people started reporting they could no longer access the site:
It should be noted, of course, that almost everything Trump wrote is inaccurate, especially about the insurrectionists who attempted to stop the count of the votes to certify the election on Jan. 6, 2021. Some of the insurrections had guns and even fired into the air just outside the Capitol.
Biden’s speech has been fiery, to say the least, with the president showing plenty of energy in what appears to be an attempt to counter criticisms that he’s too old. But that kind of energy clearly upset Trump, who’s almost the same age and has shown his own brain deterioration in recent months.
When will Truth Social be back online? That part isn’t clear. While Down Detector has thousands of reports of the site being down and we can’t access the site anymore, Truth Social’s own status page doesn’t show any problems.
